Elmina-based Sea Lions will engage the Black Maidens on Thursday.

The game will serve as preparation for both teams for two impending challenges.

The Black Maidens have a date with their Djibouti counterparts as they seek to reach the world cup. But for the Sea Lions, it is about making themselves ready for the impending National Women’s League whose date is yet to be fixed.

The Elmina side are gunning for the sole slot from the southern sector of the NWL to compete for the league title after narrowly missing out to Lady Strikers and placing second last season.

Coach Evans Adotey is expected to field a strong side as a win over the Sea Lions will further boost their morale going into the second leg match, which will be played at the Cape Coast Stadium on February 18.

Black Maidens annihilated Djibouti 9-0 in their FIFA U17 Women’ World Cup qualifier first leg tie played in faraway Djibouti.

A hat-trick from Captain Mukarama Abdulai and other goals from Suzzy Teye, Abigail Tutuwaa, Jacqueline Owusu, Mumuni Feseina, Milot Abena Pokua and Adama Alhassan gave Ghana a firm footing going into the second leg.

They had beaten The Gambia 7-1 on aggregate before making it to the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The junior female national team is aiming to emulate the Black Princesses who beat Cameroon in their final qualifier to qualify for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup.
