A lot of Ghanaians, especially music fans, still do not believe that Dancehall Artiste, Ebony Reigns, is dead. To them, it is hard to take the news that Ebony Reigns, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, has passed on.
WELL, we on this paper could also not believe it when the news broke in the wee hours of Friday, February 9, 2018 that Ebony has died in a motor crash at Bechem in the Brong Ahafo Region. Our hearts are broken, to think that young budding star, Ebony, is gone.
THIS is a lady who was full of life with loads of potential. Though she was criticised for the way she dresses sometimes while performing, we cannot deny the fact that some of her songs were inspiring and good. In fact most of her songs had become hits that many have tipped her to win the Artiste of the Year—2017.
SOME of her hit songs included ‘Mame Hwe,’ ‘Poison,’ ‘Kupe,’ among others.
WE understand Ebony would be twenty-one (21) Wednesday, February 16, 2018. Sad to see that she did not live to see her birthday! We recall young promising actress, Suzzy Williams, hiplife star, Terry Bonchaka (Terrence Nii Okang Mensah Adjetey his real name) and flowering actor, Kwame Owusu Ansah, whose lives were cut short by road accidents. May their souls continue to rest in peace!
WHILE Today sympathises with the bereaved family, it is important that we stop this rather bad practice of circulating gory pictures of the dead on social media. Have we lost our sense of respect for the dead? It does not speak well of us as Ghanaians, and it is about time we stopped such backward behaviour.
WE also want to use this medium to advise our artistes to rest. There are times where an artiste can perform three shows at different locations in a day. This largely puts unnecessary pressure on the artiste, his/her team including the driver.
YOUNG Ebony is gone but her songs will continue to inspire us. Rest in peace Ebony Reigns!!!
